A pair of Westman players and the Meltfort Mustangs are Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League champions for the first time since 1996.
David Heath of Melita scored on a first period penalty shot to lead Melfort to a 4-0 win on Thursday night as they completed a four-game sweep against Notre Dame in the final.
Heath is serving as captain of the Mustangs and is joined on the roster by Sam Houston of Boissevain.
Melfort moves on the Western Canada Cup next weekend in Fort McMurray, Alberta where they look to advance to the RBC Cup National Junior ‘A’ Hockey Championship next month in Portage.
