Former Westman olympic figure skater Rudi Swiegers has found a new partner.
The 27-year old Swiegers will be skating alongside 18-year old Ontarian Hayleigh Bell when he returns to competition next season after a one-year sabbatical.
Swiegers and former partner Paige Lawrence trained in Virden for several years and had some success including four bronze medals in pairs at the Canadian Championship and a trip to the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, where the duo finished in 14th-place.
The duo split in May of 2014 after nine years together.
Swiegers and his new partner will be trained in Calgary as part of Skate Canada’s National Performance Centre network.
Lawrence, meanwhile, also decided to take a year off from competitive skating last season.
There’s no immediate word on her skating future.
