The Brandon Wheat Kings’ ‘Pink the Rink’ night this Friday will have special meaning for Wheat Kings’ forward Garrett Armour.
The special jerseys Brandon wears are emblazoned with cancer victims names, and one of those is Joyce Armour – Garrett’s grandmother.
Joyce Armour passed away last October from lung cancer.
“It definitely means a lot. She’s still very fresh in our memories…I miss her like crazy,” said Garrett Armour on Monday, “She always loved watching me play hockey so to represent her and give her a nice sendoff, it’ll be really special for me.”
Among the other names recognized on this year’s pink jersey will be former Brandon coach Dunc McCallum, Darren Gusdal, who played on Brandon’s 1978-1979 WHL Championship club, former Athletic Trainer Rob Stouffer and Brandon businessman Vince Crisanti.
The jerseys will be auctioned off in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.
“The more money we can get to go to such a great cause. I know my family going to put some bids on the jersey because it has such significant meaning,” added Armour, “They’re great looking jerseys, it’s a great cause and whenever we get to do something like that and the money goes somewhere good, it’s always a good feeling.”
Last year’s ‘Pink the Rink’ night raised more than 30-thousand dollars.

Raffle tickets are being sold at the Canadian Cancer Society office (415 1st Street) and at this week’s home games.
As well, special edition pink T-shirts are available at the Wheat Kings’ Team Store and the CCS office.
