Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – Ty Lewis had a career night as the Brandon Wheat Kings opened up their season with an 8-1 win over the Regina Pats on Friday.
Lewis, who spent the last two weeks with the Colorado Avalanche had two goals and three assists for five points in a first star performance.
Brandon used three power play goals and multi-point nights from eight different players to knock off the Memorial Cup Hosts in front of 5012 fans at Westman Place.
Cole Reinhardt and Stelio Mattheos each had two goal nights, while Connor Gutenberg and Rylan Bettens rounded out the scoring in the offensive outburst.
Brandon outshot Regina 45-34 and lead 34-20 on the shot clock after 40 minutes.
Logan Thompson earned the win between the pipes while Tyler Brown and Max Paddock combined to make 37 saves in the losing effort.
These two teams will square off again tonight (Saturday) at the Brandt Centre in Regina.
The Q-Country pregame show begins at 7:30 MB time, with puck drop scheduled for 8:00 p.m.

-Braden Schneider (2A) and Jonny Hooker (1A) registered their first WHL points on Friday night.
-Four players made their WHL debuts for Brandon tonight. Jonny Hooker, Ty Ettinger, Lynden McCallum and Marcus Sekundiak.
-Combined, the Wheat Kings and Pats have seven graduates of the Brandon Minor Hockey Association (BMHA) on their rosters.
-Seven of the eight goals Brandon scored tonight had at least one graduate of BMHA involved in the scoring play.
-Brandon’s Tristan Robins and Vista’s Cole Muir were both scratched for the Pats.
-Former Virden Oil Capital Marco Creta was also scratched for Regina.
