Virden, MB (CKLQ) – The Virden Oil Capitals managed to survive a roller coaster of a third period to escape with a 4-3 win over the Steinbach Pistons to take a 2-0 series lead in the MJHL finals.
In their first game in nearly a week, the Oil Capitals found themselves down early int he first period after a Pistons goal by William Koop.
It wasn’t until the second period when the Virden tied it up, after a goal by Graeme Hore.
In the third period, Virden put themselves on top after a goal by Tristan Cross, but it wasn’t too long until Steinbach came back.
Two quick goals by the Pistons put the team on top, thanks to goals by Jack Johnson and Easton Bennett.
Down 3-2, in a span of 1:41, Virden got two goals by Rylee Zimmer and Landyn Cochrane.
They held on to the lead from there to take a 2-0 series lead.
Game 3 will be played on Saturday in Steinbach at 7:30pm.
