Parents of kids in the Brandon School Division got an update email from Superintendent Dr. Marc Casavant yesterday. Mostly an update on what we can expect in the coming weeks, and when we can expect a better idea of what returning to school will look like in the fall.
Included in this letter was encouragement for parents to start planning now for what happens when you have a sick kid.
“The return to school in the fall will require a collaborative effort to keep everyone safe and we ask all families to have back-up plans for when their child may become ill. It comes without saying that staff and students will be asked to stay home if they are ill and to follow any protocols that the Chief Medical Officer or Manitoba Education prescribe in these instances. I will have more to share on this when our plans are finalized.”
For some, a sick day means calling in a relative or friend to help with care at home. But for many parents, a sick kid means a day home from work. At our house, it’s always been a 50/50. My husband takes the morning shift and I’m home at noon. So what happens at your house when you have a sick kid?
