Holiday Mountain Ski Resort, almost two hours southeast of Brandon, will not operate this upcoming season.
The drought has signifcantly impacted the Pembina River which is the water source for the resort’s snowmaking.
The ski hill has a premit allowing it to use 17-million gallons of water from the river, but the resort’s managers feel there would be a huge environmental impact if it drew that much water this year. Holiday Mountain is located in La Rivière, Manitoba.
The Pembina River isn’t the only one down to the rocks because of the drought – the Roseau River, the Assiniboine and Red rivers are also extremely low.
States of Drought Emergency have been declared in Morden, Winkler – and the RM of Stanley – but the City of Brandon says it’s not worried about water levels at this time, and restrictions are not anticipated.
