The Mennonite Central Committee says its upcoming fall ‘Relief Sale’ has been cancelled at Brandon’s Keystone Centre due to the many restrictions, guidelines and concerns surrounding COVID-19.
In a news release, the Committee says “The Brandon MCC Relief Sale, one of 38 similar events in North America, exists to support MCC’s mission of relief, development and peace in the name of Christ. MCC works in many places around the world to address hunger, poverty and relief for those who have lost their homes due to disaster, conflict or crises like the current pandemic.
In September 2019, the Brandon MCC Relief Sale raised more than $70,000 to help fund MCC’s disaster response efforts in countries such as Madagascar and Mozambique, and support of refugees in places like Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. Traditionally the sale offers the community an opportunity to purchase local produce and meats, handicrafts, plants, pies, a variety of gently used items and a Mennonite lunch of perogies, farmer sausage and dessert.
The relief sale committee is grateful for many hard-working and dedicated volunteers, faithful sale-goers and generous donors whose involvement has contributed to the success of the Brandon MCC Relief Sale since 1985.
This fall, the relief sale committee encourages community members to donate “cash for kits” to fund the cost of MCC relief kit, school kit and comforter supplies. These kits will offer comfort and relief to families facing disaster or crisis.
“Cash for kits” donations can be made online at https://donate.mcccanada.ca/cause/cash-kits by calling 1-888-622-6337 or via cheque. Cheques should be written out to Mennonite Central Committee with “Cash for kits” noted on the memo line and mailed to:
