Summer starts for real next Wednesday, June 8th when the Manitoba Summer Fair opens at the Keystone Centre.
Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba Marketing and Communications Manager. Michelle McDougall, says they’ve currently got a great deal on tickets – the ‘Pay One Price’ option. “For $43.00 right now, up until we open on June 8th, your pass and your rides are just one price – $43.00. So, we encourage everybody to take advantage of that.”
McDougall says the Summer Fair will have lots of family entertainment including circus acts, trapeze and magic shows, live music, animal shows, a petting zoo and wagon rides – and of course, the midway.
“North American Midway Entertainment is bringing top of the line rides,” says McDougall, “‘Ring of Fire’ and ‘Century Wheel’ are coming back, and new this year is ‘Star Dancer.’ She says “It has a large arm that shoots up to the sky with four separate arms that spin riders around, up and down and inside and outside.” For the kids, McDougall says there’s ‘Spiderman’ and ‘Mini Jets’ – and a new ride called the ‘Raptor Run’, which looks like the Tilt-a-Whirl but with dinosaurs.
As for entertainment, there will be lots of live music and family friendly shows like the ‘Hockey Circus Show’ and ‘Aaron Mathews Magic’.
McDougall says there’s special gate admission on Thursday afternoon for Westman Disability Day, where intellectually or physically challenged folks can enter in at no charge from 1 to 3 pm. Tickets must be picked up at the Dome Building or online before coming to the admission gates.
Other Summer Fair attractions include the Travellers Day Parade, a Trade Show, the Draft Horse and Miniature Horse Shows and Hackney Horses. There’s also a Market at the Dome featuring arts and crafts for sale on Saturday June 11th. On Sunday, June 12th – the day begins with ‘Breakfast Under the Dome’ at 9:00 am: tickets are $5.00 – and later in the day, the popular Demolition Derby.
And McDougall says at dusk on opening day, Wednesday June 8th, there will be a fabulous fireworks show by Winnipeg’s Archangel Fireworks.
