Brandon landscaping company Alternative Group has won two provincial awards from the Manitoba Nursery Landscape Association.
According to a media release, “These prestigious awards recognize the best in creating exceptional gardens and landscapes, and honours the outstanding skill and workmanship of Manitoba’s landscape professionals.”
Alternative Group won the Award of Merit for Landscape Design for its Woodland Retreat project.

“This design tackled many site challenges including big changes in elevation. The concept was designed to include a firepit, outdoor kitchen and bar, fireplace with sitting area, and a hot tub. The end result was a private yard with multiple functional spaces.”

Alternative Group also won the Garden Centre Award of Merit. “The award is for retail garden centres who have a high standard of Growing Teams through training, and career advancement, encouraging and promoting gardening as a hobby through public engagement, use technology to enhance growing practices, and are active in their community.”

“Each year, landscape construction, maintenance and design firms submit their best projects ranging from $5,000 to more than $150,000. Additionally, the Garden Centre Award recognizes the professional work of MBNLA retail garden centre members. These projects and award submissions are evaluated against rigorous criteria by highly accredited judges selected from various sectors of the horticulture industry including municipal and public gardens, nurseries, landscape companies, landscape architect firms, educational institutions, garden communications and garden centres.”

Alternative Group, located at 34th Street and Patricia Avenue in Brandon, is a local, family-run company that has been creating award-winning outdoor landscapes since 1998.
They offer “complete commercial and residential projects in landscaping, excavation, and maintenance and operate a year-round garden centre that services southwestern Manitoba.”
The company employs over 100 people.
