Manitoba’s three main party leaders are set to face each other in an hour-long television debate tonight as we close in on the October 3rd election.
A new Angus Reid opinion poll gives the Wab Kinew New Democrats 47% voter support – followed by the Heather Stefanson Progressive Conservatives with 41% – and the Dougald Lamont Liberals at 9%. In Winnipeg, the NDP has a 22-point on the Conservatives. One political analyst attributes the NDP’s success to a disciplined campaign, focused on health.
On Tuesday, September 26, the leaders are scheduled to face each other again at an event hosted by the Brandon Chamber of Commerce.
Advance polls open this Saturday. There’s more information at Elections Manitoba – Home

On Wednesday on the campaign trail, the Progressive Conservatives promised they’ll open 6 new child-care centres across the province which will create over 600 spaces for infant, pre-school and school-age children.
The New Democrats said they’d fully fund the conversion of 5,000 homes to geothermal energy – which they say would cut energy bills by up to 50%.
There were no new policy announcements from the Liberals.
And if COVID-19 surges again, both PC leader Heather Stefanson and NDP leader Wab Kinew promised not to impose restrictions on people and businesses.
Stefanson said the pandemic restrictions caused a lot of hurt – such as mental health and addiction issues – and Kinew said Manitobans do not want to contemplate business or personal restrictions again in the future.
