Residents in Brandon School Division (BSD) can vote today (Oct 25) for candidates running in the school trustee by-election at various polling locations throughout Brandon and the surrounding area.
A BSD media release says “the by-election was necessitated by the resignation of two board trustees earlier this year. Eight candidates have put their names forward to fill the vacant seat for the City Ward with the boundary set to be within the City of Brandon, and two candidates are running for the Rural Ward which includes portions of municipalities surrounding Brandon including Cornwallis, Whitehead, Elton, Oakland-Wawanesa and Riverdale.
Voting Places will be open from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and are located at:
-Monterey Estates Recreation Hall 40 Mockingbird Drive, Brandon
-McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church 635 McDiarmid Drive, Brandon
-Victoria Inn, Salon 2 3550 Victoria Avenue, Brandon
-Brandon Shoppers Mall – Unit 22 1570 – 18th Street, Brandon
-Brandon School Division Administration Office 1031 – 6th Street, Brandon
-East End Community Centre 405 Park Street, Brandon
-Alexander School 102 Argyle Street, Alexander
-Ecole O’Kelly School T-101 St. Barbara Avenue, Shilo
-Brandon Hills Community Hall 50159, Road 106W, RM of Cornwallis
To be eligible to vote in this election, a person must be 18 years of age, a Canadian citizen, and live the school division for a period of at least six months at the date of the election (since April
25, 2023). Voters may vote at the Voting Place which they find most convenient, but must vote for the candidates in the ward in which they reside.
Identification will be required before being allowed to vote. A person will be required to produce one piece of government issued photo identification, eg. driver’s license or at least two other documents that provide proof of identity and residence
“School Board trustee elections are an opportunity for Brandon School Division residents to participate in public education governance” notes Heather Ewasiuk, Senior Election Official. “The Board of Trustees’ primary responsibility is serving students, parents and school communities by advancing student achievement.”
