-Ontario’s Rachel Homan reclaimed the Canadian women’s curling championship with a 5-4 win in extra ends over Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones on Sunday. They’ll represent Canada at the world championship March 16th to 24th in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Homan won her 4th title denying Jones, who’s retiring from women’s curling, a record-breaking 7th championship. Homan won three Tournament of Hearts between 2013 and 2017, and lost in the final three straight years between 2019 and 2021.
-Kyle Connor got the game winner in overtime, his second of the night, as the Winnipeg Jets beat the Arizona Coyotes 4-3. Mark Scheifele and Gabriel Vilardi also scored for Winnipeg. The Jets, who’ve won 3 straight – and 6 of their past seven games – host St. Louis on Tuesday.
-The Brandon Wheat Kings, who took 4 of 6 points on their weekend road trip, play again this coming Friday when they host the Raiders. Prince Albert beat Brandon 5-2 on Saturday.
-The Brandon AAA U18 Wheat Kings finished off the regular season with a 5-1 win over the Winnipeg Wild on Sunday. Brandon wrapped-up the season with a 43-0-and-1 record. They’ll meet the East-Man Selects in the first round of the playoffs this Friday at the J&G Homes Arena. Meanwhile, the Manitoba Female AAA U18 Westman Wildcats beat Pembina Valley 5-2 to sweep their best-of-five quarterfinal series 3-0.
