-The Brandon Wheat Kings secured a playoff spot with a 3-2 win over the Prince Albert Raiders last Saturday. Up next – the Wheat Kings play the Moose Jaw Warriors on Thursday – their final home game of the regular season.
-For the 4th time in 5 years – the Brandon AAA U18 Wheat Kings will face the Winnipeg Wild in the League Championship. Game 1 goes this Friday at J&G Homes Arena. Both teams have also punched their tickets to the West Regionals starting April 4th in Winnipeg.
-The Winnipeg Jets won their second game in-a-row on Sunday with a 6-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Tyler Toffoli had two goals and an assist for Winnipeg. Nikolaj Ehlers, Vladislav Namestnikov, Logan Stanley and Kyle Connor also scored for the Jets (43-19-5) who won their 20th road game of the season. Connor Hellebuyck made 30 saves. Next action for Winnipeg is Tuesday in New York against the Rangers.
-The Manitoba Junior Hockey League playoffs begin this Friday. The Virden Oil Capitals will face the Neepawa Titans, the OCN Blizzard take on the Dauphin Kings, the Steinbach Pistons will meet the Niverville Nighthawks – and the Portage Terriers will play the Winkler Flyers.
-and at the World Women’s Curling Championship in Nova Scotia – Rachel Homan’s Team Canada is tied with Italy and Switzerland at 3-and-0. Canada plays 1-and-2 Norway this afternoon.
