Vacation time is coming up for lots of us. The weather is improving, the sun is out more, it’s the perfect time to get away. Once it’s over though you have to come back home. Have you ever come home from vacation to something unexpected? A break-in? A pipe burst? A letter saying you’re dead and still on the line for a speeding ticket?
34-year-old Nick Fautoros was fighting a speeding ticket before he left for an extended trip to Central America. He didn’t think about the ticket while he was gone, but when he came home it had escalated in a way he hadn’t expected. Somewhere along the line of trying to get him to pay for his ticket and him fighting it, his extended absence had led the government to believe he was dead! They’d even sent a letter to his home informing next of kin that the ticket still needed to be paid.
Of course, Nick isn’t dead, and having to get the government to acknowledge that has proven to be a bit tedious. The Justice Ministry has been in contact but nothing has been resolved yet.
What have you come home from vacation to find? Kids threw a party when you were gone and the house is a mess? A break-in?
