-Canada’s Brad Gushue fell 7-6 to Italy this morning at the world men’s curling championship. Canada is now 3-and-1 and in a 4-way tie for third. Sweden leads at 5-and-0 followed by Scotland at 4-and-1.
-The Brandon Wheat Kings host the Moose Jaw Warriors for Games 3 and 4 of their first round playoff series this Wednesday and Thursday. Brandon trails Moose Jaw 2-0 after a 7-4 loss in Game One last Friday and a 5-4 overtime loss on Saturday.
-The Winnipeg Jets, looking to snap a 6-game losing streak, welcome the Los Angeles Kings tonight. The Jets have 8 games left and are 6 points back of the second-place Colorado Avalanche in the NHL Central Division. Winnipeg is four points ahead of the Nashville Predators who hold down the first wildcard spot in the Western Conference.
-The Virden Oil Capitals are a win away from joining the Winkler Flyers and Steinbach Pistons in Round 2 of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League playoffs. Virden beat the Neepawa Titans 3-2 on Sunday. The Oil Capitals lead the best-of-seven West Division semi-final 3-2. Game 6 goes Tuesday at the Yellowhead Centre.
-and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Tampa Bay Rays 9-2 yesterday to earn a split of their four-game series. The Jays visit the Houston Astros today.
