The Western Regional Champion Brandon Wheat Kings U18 AAA hockey team begins their quest for the Telus Cup next Monday. Since 1974, the best under-18 teams in the country have gathered to compete for Canada’s Men’s U18 National Club Championship.
The Telus Cup has been a starting point for hundreds of NHL careers; alumni include a trio of first-overall picks (Gord Kluzak, Wendel Clark, Sidney Crosby), and a who’s-who of Canadian stars past and present – names like Brind’Amour, Drouin, Eberle, Francis, Letang, Rielly, Roy, Sakic and Yzerman.
This year’s tournament is being held in Sydney, Nova Scotia and features the host Sydney Rush, along with the Calgary Buffaloes, Kensington Wild, Cantonniers de Magog, Markham Waxers and the Wheat Kings.
Brandon’s schedule:
Game 1: Monday, April 22 at 1:00 PM Central Time
Game 2: Tuesday April 23 at 5:00 PM Central Time
Game 3: Wednesday April 24 at 1:00 PM Central Time
Game 4: Thursday April 25 at 9:00 AM Central Time
Game 5: Friday April 26 at 1:00 PM Central Time
The medal round will depend on how the Wheat Kings do in the opening round, but possible times are 12:00 or 4:00 pm Saturday April 27th – and 11:00 am or 3:00 pm Sunday, April 28th.
