-The Colorado Avalanche scored four unanswered goals and beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-2 in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series. David Gustafsson and Mark Scheifele had the goals for the Jets in the loss. The series, now tied at 1, will shift to Denver for Game 3.
-After dropping their first game on Monday, the Brandon AAA U18 Wheat Kings bounced back with a 7-4 win over the host Sydney Rush at the Telus Cup national championship. Jonah Lemoine with a goal and an assist, and Jaxon Jacobson with 2 assists led the way offensively for the Wheat Kings. Nash Henwood, in his first game of the tournament, was player of the game for Brandon. The win puts Brandon in 3rd place behind the Calgary Buffaloes and Magog Cantonneirs. Next up for Brandon is a game against the Atlantic region’s Kensington Wild this afternoon.
-The Winkler Flyers are a win away from capturing the Turnbull Cup. The Flyers downed the defending Manitoba Junior Hockey League champion Steinbach Pistons 4-3 in overtime last night. The teams meet for game 4 Friday in Winkler.
-Canada beat China 10-4 this morning at the world mixed doubles curling championship. Kadriana and Colton Lott of Gimli are now 6-and-1 in Group B with two games left in the round robin. The top three teams in each pool of 10 teams advance to playoffs. Sweden leads Group B at 7-and-0, and has already qualified for the playoffs. Switzerland is atop Group A at 6-and-1.
-and the Kansas City Royals downed the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2. The series continues today.
