-At the 2024 Telus Cup in Nova Scotia – the Brandon AAA U18 Wheat Kings lost 3-1 to the Pacific region’s Calgary Buffaloes this morning. Jaxon Jacobson had his best game of the tournament and was named the Wheat King ‘Player of the Game.’ The loss dropped the Wheat Kings to 2-and-2 in the tournament with 6 points. Up next, Brandon faces the Central region’s Markham Waxers Friday afternoon. Yesterday, Brandon beat the Atlantic’s Kensington Wild 2-1.
-Canada plays its preliminary round opener this morning against Sweden at the 2024 World U18 Hockey Championship in Finland. Brandon Wheat Kings defenseman Charlie Elick and forward Roger McQueen are on Team Canada’s roster. Canada will also face Switzerland, Czechia and Kazakhstan in Group B.
-Round 3 of the Western Hockey League playoffs begin Friday with the Moose Jaw Warriors in Saskatoon against the Blades – and the Portland Winterhawks at home to the Prince George Cougars.
-In the NHL playoffs last night, the Bruins beat the Leafs 4-2, the Golden Knights downed the Stars 3-1, and the Kings edged the Oilers 5-4 in overtime. Boston leads their series 2-1, Vegas is up 2-0, and L-A and Edmonton are tied at 1. The Winnipeg Jets/Colorado Avalanche series, also tied at one, resumes Friday night in Denver.
-Gimli’s Kadriana and Colton Lott have clinched a playoff spot at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Sweden. Canada beat Australia 11-4 this morning to improve to 7-and-1. They’ll play their final round robin game against the U-S today.
-and two-time Canadian curling champion Chelsea Carey will take over Jennifer Jones’ team for the next two seasons. Jones retired from women’s team curling this season.
