-The Colorado Avalanche beat the Dallas Stars 4-3 in overtime Tuesday night to take a 1-0 lead in their second NHL playoff series. In the other game, the New York Rangers beat the Carolina Hurricanes also 4-3 in double-overtime to lead 2-0. Tonight – the Edmonton Oilers visit the Vancouver Canucks for Game One of their second-round series – and the Boston Bruins, leading 1-0, visit the Florida Panthers.
-The San Jose Sharks won the NHL Draft Lottery. The Sharks are expected to select Boston University center Macklin Celebrini with the first overall pick. The Chicago Blackhawks have the second pick in Round One followed by the Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Montreal Canadians and Utah.
-The Moose Jaw Warriors beat the Saskatoon Blades 3-2 in overtime last night to advance to the WHL Championship. They’ll meet the Portland Winterhawks starting Friday.
-Jordan Binnington made 21 saves for the shutout as Canada beat Hungary 4-0 in Budapest in a pre-tournament game before the start of the 2024 World Men’s Hockey Championship. Canada will play Great Britain in their preliminary round opener Saturday in Prague.
-Canada downed Czechia 5-1 on Tuesday at the world para ice hockey championship. Canada finished undefeated across all three of its group games to sit atop Group B. The Canadians will next face China, which placed second in Group A behind the United States, in the semifinals on Friday.
-and the CFL has suspended Toronto Argonauts’ quarterback Chad Kelly for a minimum of nine regular season games for violating the league’s gender-based violence policy. He’s also ineligible to compete in the team’s two preseason games. To be reinstated by the league, Kelly will have to attend mandatory counselling sessions conducted by a gender-based violence expert – and undergo assessments by an independent expert.
