-The Florida Panthers beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-1 to take a 2-0 lead in the Stanley Cup final. Game 3 goes Thursday night in Edmonton.
-Shania Twain and Our Lady Peace will give free concerts in Edmonton this week in celebration of the Oilers’ Stanley Cup run. Our Lady Peace will perform on Thursday before Game 3 – and Shania will play Saturday ahead of Game 4.
-The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will have linebacker Adam Bighill back from injury on Thursday when they play in Ottawa against the Redblacks – but star receiver Kenny Lawler is out for six weeks with a broken arm. The Bombers lost their first game of the season to the defending Grey Cup Champion Montreal Alouettes 27-12. Ottawa will play its first game of the season.
-There’s one game in the South West Baseball League tonight, the winless Elkhorn Expos (0-and-4) face the Virden Oilers (2-and-3) – while in the Border baseball League it’s the Baldur Regals (2-and-3) in Cartwright against the Twins (5-and-1), the Pilot Mound Pirates (4-and-1) visit the Morden Mudhens (4-and-1) and the Winkler Whips (1-and-3) meet the Altona Bisons (6-and-2).
-and the Milwaukee Brewers downed the Blue Jays 3-1 snapping Toronto’s two-game win streak.
