-It looks like Leon Draisaitl is eligible to play for the Edmonton Oilers in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup final on Thursday night after avoiding a possible suspension. Florida’s Alexander Barkov took a hit in the jaw from Draisaitl in Game 2. Barkov reportedly cleared concussion protocol and is also expected to play tomorrow. The Panthers lead the series 2-0.
-Brandon’s Kristen Campbell, who played for Toronto in the inaugural season of the Professional Women’s Hockey League has been named ‘Goaltender of the Year’. Campbell posted a .927 save percentage, a 1.99 goals-against average and three shutouts in leading Toronto to the best regular-season record. Campbell also was named to the PWHL’s First All-Star Team.
-The Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame has announced its class of 2024. The list includes ex-NHLer Russ Romaniuk, and the 2011-12 Alan Cup Champion Southeast Prairie Thunder. A gala dinner to welcome the inductees will be held in October.
-In the South West Baseball League – Elkhorn edged Virden 9-8 in 10 innings, and in the Border Baseball League it was Cartwright over Baldur 14-8, Morden blanked Pilot Mound 4-0, and Altona shaded Winkler 7-6.
-The Toronto Blue Jays shutout the Milwaukee Brewers 3-0. Toronto will try and win the series today after a 3-1 loss on Monday.
-and Joey ‘Jaws’ Chestnut – the reigning champion of the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest – won’t be taking part in next month’s event after signing a deal with a rival brand. Word is he’ll be repping for ‘Impossible Foods’ which makes vegan sausages.
