Manitoba’s civilian police oversight group, the Independent Investigation Group of Manitoba (IIU), is examining an allegation of the Brandon Police Service tampering with video.
In a media release, the IIU said they had received a complaint on August 19 from a man who was arrested in June of last year. They served notice of their investigation to the BPS on August 16.
The arrest in question happened on June 15, 2023. According to the complaint, the man claims he was assaulted by an officer during the arrest and cruiser car video later provided to him through a Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) request was tampered with and cut short.
The IIU is asking anyone who may have information about or footage of the incident to contact them at 1-844-667-6060.
