In last night’s US presidential debate, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump laid out their visions for the future of America. The biggest takeaway from the debate was Harris’s pushback on Trump’s exaggerated claims about abortion and immigrants. He made false claims about babies being killed after they are born, and repeated unconfirmed stories that immigrants in Ohio are eating their neighbours’ dogs and cats. Harris also expertly baited the former president about his rallies, encouraging Americans to listen to him talk about Hannibal Lecter and spout windmill conspiracies to followers who leave early out of boredom. Trump then accused Harris of paying people to attend her rallies. As for what might impact Canada, neither candidate provided much insight into plans around international trade. Americans head to the polls in November.
