With the first four games of their season out of the way, the Brandon Wheat Kings are off to an impressive 3-1 start complete with some eye-popping individual performances, and they’re attracting some notice from around the Canadian Hockey League.
The CHL released their weekly top-10 ranking, a system in which they rank the top-10 teams from the WHL, OHL, and QMJHL, and the Wheat Kings have squeaked into the number 10 spot. This was the first ranking of the 2024-25 season.
While they lost their most recent game to the Saskatoon Blades, the Wheat Kings had a strong start to the season with the perfect mixture of good goaltending and individual offensive outbursts. In fact, a Wheat King has had a multi-goal game in all three of their wins this season.
Roger McQueen was named the WHL Player of the Week for the first week of the season with a four-goal opening night followed up with a two-assist game in Regina against the Pats. He kept his offensive roll going in Prince Albert and Saskatoon with a goal in each game.
Between the pipes, Ethan Eskit had been a rock for the Wheat Kings while they waited for Carson Bjarnason’s return from Philadelphia, posting a 3-0-0 record with 1.33 goals against average and a .952 save percentage.
The Medicine Hat Tigers and Prince George Cougars are the other two teams from the WHL that cracked the CHL top ten for week one.
