The City of Brandon now owns the site of the old Esso gas station on Rosser Avenue – they reportedly paid $91,000 for the property at auction. City planner Ryan Nickel told The Brandon Sun they’ll either develop the land – or turn it into green space.

Manitoba is set to become the second province to sign on to the federal government’s billion-dollar school food program. The province will get $17-million over the next three years which will be added to its provincial program. Most of the federal money will go to purchase food, but can be used by schools for equipment like refrigerators or toasters, or to renovate in-school kitchens.

A 52-year-old Portage la Prairie man has been charged with mischief and theft after police say he organized and led an illegal bison hunt on another person’s farm, which he advertised on social media. 6 animals had been shot
at the farm in the RM of Russell-Binscarth. Three of the hunters told police they thought the whole thing was legit.

Manitoba RCMP welcomed their new commanding officer Thursday with a formal event at Lower Fort Garry. 34-year-old Assistant Commissioner Scott McMurchy takes over command from Deputy Commisioner Rob Hill.
McMurchy was born in Rossburn and grew up in The Pas.

Manitoba wants the federal government to pause an environmental assessment of a flood prevention project. The $600-million project would see two channels constructed to drain high water from Lake Manitoba into Lake St. Martin. The province says more consultations are needed with First Nations in the area about design changes.

Dozens of people rallied outside the Michigan headquarters of Kellogg’s this week demanding the company remove artificial dyes from its breakfast cereals in the U-S, something Kellogg’s said it would do almost a decade ago.
In Canada, Froot Loops are coloured with concentrated carrot, watermelon, and blueberry juices – but in the U-S, the cereal still contains artificial colours and BHT, a chemical preservative.
