A Brandon University student suffered serious injuries after what’s believed to be a random attack and robbery near the campus on Saturday night. The female student was going to visit friends living in residence when she was attacked. She’s recovering. No arrests have been made yet.

The Association of Manitoba Municipalities is meeting this week, and the City of Brandon will urge the organization to adopt a resolution allowing the city to install red light cameras and photo radar. Councillor Bruce Luebke
has been pushing the idea citing safety concerns. So far, only Winnipeg has been allowed to install the devices.

Brandon’s Santa Claus parade was a huge hit on Saturday bringing out hundreds of people. There were a record 60 floats, surpassing the 48 that took part last year. This year’s theme was ‘Christmas Around the World’ celebrating diverse holiday traditions.

Brandon’s Westoba Place will become a holiday wonderland on Tuesday when Cirque Musica brings its tour to the city. The family-friendly show features acrobats, balancing acts, a speed juggler, singers, dancers, and a holiday story. Tickets are still available.

Talks continued over the weekend, but there’s still no agreement to end the postal workers strike. More than 55-thousand employees walked off the job on November 15th. The corporation has offered wage increases totalling 11.5% over 4 years – the union wants 24%.

One of the fastest growing hobbies in Canada is…ant-keeping. Canada Ant Colony, a business that sells ant farms, colonies and supplies, estimates upwards of 30,000 of us are into raising ants. They say startup costs are minimal, and the colonies don’t require too much effort to grow.

It was one of the best moviegoing weekends of the year thanks to ‘Wicked’ and ‘Gladiator Two’. ‘Glicked’ combined for $270-million in worldwide ticket sales. Rounding out the Top 5 were ‘Red One’, ‘Bonhoeffer: Pastor. Spy. Assassin.’ – and ‘Venom: The Last Dance’. The Made-in-Manitoba ‘Best Christmas Pageant Ever’ came in 6th.
