RCMP have arrested two people following a traffic stop, one of whom they say was trying to destroy evidence when the stop was conducted.
In a release, RCMP said they undertook this traffic stop on December 3 at about 1:15 in the afternoon in the town of Russell. While they were talking to the driver, an officer noticed a package of unstamped cigarettes in the passenger side door.
A search of the vehicle turned up illegal prescription drugs. According to RCMP, the officer saw the male driver trying to destroy evidence. A 46-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman, who was the passenger, were both arrested.
The driver was charged with Trafficking, Possession of a Substance for the Purpose, and Resisting/Obstruct a Peace Officer, the female was charged with Trafficking x 2.
The investigation continues.
