When he was a member of the Brandon Wheat Kings, Brett Hyland was one of their most reliable scorers. Now that he’s graduated from the team, the goals just keep coming for the 2003-born forward.
Hyland was named Canada West’s WHL graduate of the month for January. The former Wheat Kings captain had four goals and 11 assists in eight games, while recording a point in every game he played.
So far, it seems Hyland has fit right in on an Alberta Golden Bears squad that is a perennial powerhouse in the U Sports circuit. He sits third in team scoring with 30 points in 19 games played, despite having played fewer games than his teammates.
It won’t come as a shock to Wheat Kings fans that Hyland is putting up numbers. Last season he led the Wheat Kings in goals and points, scoring 32 times and putting up 59 total points.
In addition to finishing his Wheat Kings’ career as captain of the team, Hyland finished with 75 goals and 145 points in 195 WHL games, all as a Wheat King.
Hyland and Jayden Wiens were the two 2003-born players to go to U Sports teams after their WHL careers concluded. Wiens is a member of the Mount Royal Cougars. The third graduating player, Jackson DeSouza, is playing professional hockey in Norway with Lillehammer.
