Another day of extreme cold in Brandon, and it’s expected to last for the next few days. Environment Canada says wind chills will be in the minus-40 or lower range before moderating by Thursday. The weather office predicts a significant warm-up by the weekend.

Brandon’s Riverview School is expanding to include Grades 7 and 8. The school division says Grade 7 students will begin attending this September – and Grade 8’s next year. And extensive renovations will not be needed – Riverview reportedly has plenty of available classroom space.

Police put an end to a crime spree on Sunday with the arrest of 4 men in Brandon. The suspects, aged 21 to 26, are accused of robbing commercial businesses in the RM’s of Teulon and St. Laurent, Swan Lake First Nation and Winnipeg. In all of the hold-ups this month, the suspects wore masks and were armed with various weapons.

Manitoba RCMP are searching for a 35-year-old man after guns, cocaine and pills were seized from a home in Cross Lake. Patrick Ross is also accused of assaulting a woman in the home on February 12th.

There’s no official word yet on what caused a Delta Air Lines plane to flip upside down at Toronto’s Pearson airport on Monday – but at the time of the crash, there was blowing snow and winds were gusting up to 65 km/h. At least 18 people, including a child, were injured. The plane was carrying four crew and 76 passengers, with 22 Canadians among them.

Canada’s annual inflation rate moved up slightly in January to 1.9%. Gas prices jumped 8.6% year-over-year, largely because of a 25.9% spike in Manitoba which reintroduced the provincial gas tax after a temporary suspension in 2024. Restaurant food prices and alcohol prices both dropped thanks to a tax break that ended last weekend.

Mountain Equipment Company has issued a recall for certain children’s snowsuits due to the possible presence of mould. It affects their Toaster and Toaster Bunting suits sold between August and December 2024. You can return the suits to any of their stores for a refund or exchange. There’s an MEC in Winnipeg.

Brandon’s Keystone Centre hosted the Crocus Obedience and Kennel Club’s annual dog show over the weekend. The event attracted hundreds of handlers and their dogs who competed in several categories including Best in Show, Junior Handling, and Best Puppy. Best in Show went to a Siberian Husky named Taffy.

The ‘Saturday Night Live’ 50th anniversary celebration on Sunday was NBC’s most-watched prime-time entertainment telecast in five years, reaching nearly 15 million viewers. The 3-and-a-half hour show featured comedy sketches, unexpected cameos including Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson – and musical performances from Paul Simon, Sabrina Carpenter, Miley Cyrus and Paul McCartney.
