Manitoba RCMP have confirmed human remains found in the Prairie Green Landfill search have been identified as those of Marcedes Myran of Long Plain First Nation. Her family has been notified and the Manitoba government continues to ask that the family’s privacy be respected.
Marcedes Myran’s remains were found as part of a humanitarian search and recovery mission, initiated by the Manitoba government at the request of the families of Myran and Morgan Harris. The mission is operated in conjunction with the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs and with the support of the federal government.
Myran’s remains were one of two sets recovered in the search, the other of which was identified as Harris earlier in March.
Both 26-year-old Myran and 39-year-old Harris were from Long Plain First Nation, 95 kilometres west of Winnipeg. They were among four Indigenous women murdered by serial killer Jeremy Skibicki in 2022.
Last July, Skibicki was convicted of four counts of first degree murder in the killings of Myran, Harris, Rebecca Contois, 24, and a still-unidentified woman who has been given the name Mashkode Bizhiki’ikwe, or Buffalo Woman, by community leaders.
