In February 2025, the RCMP Federal Policing National Security Enforcement Section (NSES), Northwest Region, began an investigation following a referral from the Winnipeg Police Service.
On March 17, 2025, the RCMP NSES arrested Nevin Thunder Young, a 19-year-old male of Winnipeg, Manitoba. He has been charged with:
- Facilitating terrorist activity, contrary to section 83.19(1) of the Criminal Code;
- Participation in activity of a terrorist group, contrary to section 83.18(1) of the Criminal Code;
- Commission of an offence for a terrorist group, contrary to section 83.2 of the Criminal Code (x2).
Young remains in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre and is scheduled to appear at the Winnipeg Provincial Court on March 18, 2025.
The RCMP would like to acknowledge the Winnipeg Police Service for their support in this investigation.
The CBC reports that Young was previously arrested on January 15th and charged with 26 counts of mischief under $5,000.
“Between Sept. 28 and Dec. 31, Winnipeg police were alerted to multiple reports of antisemitic graffiti in the Charleswood area of the city, including swastikas that were spray-painted on the back of the Westdale Community Centre, which is south of Roblin Boulevard and east of the Perimeter Highway, according to a release on Jan. 14.”
