It’s time again to nominate a city street or highway you think is in dire need of repairs – CAA Manitoba’s annual ‘Worst Roads’ campaign is underway. The idea is to highlight for governments which roads need some work, but

The Manitoba government is looking to set new rules for drivers near snowplows, tow trucks and cyclists. Under the new regulations, you’ll have to drive at least 30 metres behind a snowplow on most roads – and you’ll be banned from passing plows if you can’t see the road ahead because of blowing snow. Also, tow truck operators will be allowed to place traffic control devices on the road to protect themselves – and you’ll need to maintain a distance of at least one metre when passing cyclists.

The Mayor and City of Brandon have officially welcomed Dave Wardrop as the city’s new manager. He brings over 30 years of experience to Brandon including overseeing numerous high-profile projects, operations, and organizations. Most recently, Wardrop served as the CAO for West St. Paul near Winnipeg.

A second set of human remains found at a Winnipeg area landfill have been identified as those of Marcedes Myran. The 26-year-old from Long Plain First Nation was a victim of serial killer Jeremy Skibicki. Earlier this month the remains of Morgan Harris were identified. Skibicki was convicted of first-degree murder last July.

Flames from a fire at Brandon’s Eastview Landfill could be seen a kilometre away on Monday. The fire forced the city to close the facility for several hours. Firefighters eventually got the blaze under control, and the cause is still under investigation. Back in January, there was another significant fire at Eastview, and police are still looking for a suspect.

Three Brandon restaurants are on board for the 2025 Stone Soup campaign. It runs until Sunday and collects a dollar from each bowl of soup sold for the Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba. Participating restaurants include The Dock on Princess, The Eagles Nest Bar and Grill, and Lady of the Lake. The Council provides meals for students in most schools in Brandon.

A provincial byelection is being held today in the Transcona area of Winnipeg. The seat was formerly held by Education Minister Nello Altomare who died in January. The riding is a long-time NDP stronghold.

Former prime minister Brian Mulroney will be featured on a stamp as part of Canada Post’s 2025 line-up. Mulroney, who died last year, served as prime minister from 1984 to 1993. The stamp, which continues the post office’s tradition of honouring prime ministers, will be unveiled on Thursday.
