A scam involving large denomination bills and what essentially boils down to a shell game has hit several businesses in Brandon, and the Brandon Police Service is asking other businesses to be on the lookout.
In a post on their Facebook page, the BPS said so-called “quick change” scams have been spotted in Brandon. The scam involves paying for a small item with a large bill, then distracting the cashier by, among other things, pulling out other bills and asking for other change in the hopes of making them make a mistake in counting.
The BPS have spotted two suspects, believed to be working together, in these scam attempts. Police say they suspect the two are not from the Brandon area and may be traveling, but they shared the post to “raise awareness and help prevent further occurrences.”
The BPS have posted video footage of one such incident on their Facebook page to help identify the people involved.
