It’s easy to sit on the couch and call out all the mistakes characters make in horror movies that ultimately lead to their deaths, but how well do you think you’d actually do in one? According to new research, a lot of people are pretty confident they’d do better than those on screen.
A new poll of 2-thousand adults finds that a third think they could actually outrun a masked baddie and get away. And 75% believe their quick thinking and survival instincts would help them escape.
- But 42% are more realistic, admitting they’d probably be the first to get picked off.
- Another 14% think they could outsmart the villain with a strategy of “logic and reason,” while 13% say they’d run and never look back.
- Some think they’d end up making fatal slasher film mistakes like ignoring the obvious warning signs (21%) or splitting up from the group (19%).
- More than a third (37%) fear they’d end up trusting the wrong person, costing them their life.
- And one in 20 believe they’d make it until the very last scene, but they might not be alive.
- What people like most about horror movies is the suspense and tension (40%), and the psychological twists (30%).
- If they were in a slasher flick, 48% would want a survival expert companion, or a calm and logical thinker (47%).
- As for scary movie settings, 20% say an abandoned asylum is the most terrifying, while 17% say it’s a remote cabin in the woods.
- The worst mistake a character can make is not finishing off the villain, according to 23%.
- And nearly half (48%) say the most important rule is to never split up.
