-Manitoba has the highest number of reported measles cases, in Canada in 2026, and its only February. Public Health Officials say there may be about 10 times as many infections that get reported or get detected. The communities of Winkler, Morden and surrounding municipalities are the most impacted Measles communities in Manitoba. December holiday gatherings may have fueled the recent increase. Measles is a red, blotchy rash, but it can result in serious illness or death.

-Volunteers and caterers are fully preparing for the 3 day Westman Multicultural Festival in Brandon. The event features food and entertainment from 11 different cultures in western Manitoba. Organizers say food is the best way festival-goers can connect with the culture, history and community, at locations like the Royal Canadian Legion, Knox United Church, and WIS Multicultural Centre.

-The city of Brandon is handing out grant money. 8 organizations and one city initiative will get funding. Southwestern Manitoba’s Art Gallery received $40 thousand dollars. Other grants are going to museums, community organizations, and downtown initiatives. -Premier Wab Kinew is hinting at major projects that could transform Manitoba’s economy and end its ‘have-not’ status. Economists say there are no quick fixes, as large deficits are expected to continue, and major projects will take years to generate revenue. While Kinew talks big about the economy in the long term, revenue growth currently inches along.

-Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Canada is bringing back EV incentives as part of a new national strategy to boost slowing EV sales. The federal government is scrapping mandates that would have required all new vehicles sold to be electric by 2035. EV rebates are back on the table, up to $5 thousand dollars on electric vehicles and $2500 dollars on plug in hybrids.
