Winter is offering Brandon and area residents a stern reminder that it’s nowhere near done yet.
Environment Canada has placed Brandon under two yellow advisories, one for snow and one for blowing snow, as high winds and heavy snowfall hit the region. Wind gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour are expected to cause snow drifts and reduced visibility.
According to Environment Canada, the blowing snow advisory is expected to be the shorter-lived of the two, with winds diminishing through this morning. The snowfall advisory will take a little longer to sort itself out, as Brandon will be under that until tomorrow morning.
Brandon and area are to expect anywhere from 15 to 25 centimeters of snow. The Parklands region is expected to get the heaviest snowfall, with as much as 30 centimeters in the forecast.
“Travel will likely be challenging,” reads the forecast from Environment Canada. “Visibility will likely be reduced at times. Road closures are possible. Local utility outages are possible. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.”
The snowfall warning is to be followed by a run of colder temperatures, with overnight lows dipping down into the -20s over the next several days.
