2 pilots were killed after an Air Canada plane collides with vehicle at New York’s LaGuardia Airport Sunday night. A Passenger jet crashed into a Port Authority rescue and firefighting vehicle after landing plane on runway after crash. The plane was carrying 72 passengers and four crew members from Montreal. A Port Authority spokesperson says the aircraft hit a “rescue and firefighting vehicle”. 41 passengers and crew taken to hospital, 9 remain there. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grounded all planes at the airport.

Fraud reports are on the rise in Brandon; from the Garage scams last summer to Grandparent-scams. The Brandon Sun says Police reports show that 61-cases have been reported so far; compared with the 53 in 2025. In 2024 there were 83 -fraud reports; with 90 in 2023.

The town of Grandview’s bid to become Canada’s next “Kraft Hockeyville champion” has ended. Tumbler Ridge (B.C.) and Taber (Alberta) were selected as the final two. Still, for winning at the provincial level, Grandview’s facility received $60,000 for upgrades and new equipment.

The Union says a new directive- “forces” ambulances out of city; so when a 9-1-1 call comes in; it leaves Brandon thin. The Brandon Sun says crews respond to around 28 calls a day. In response, Shared Health says residents will always have ambulance service in Brandon.

The Mb Government has promises $14 million more for Corrections after the Union complained of inmate overcrowding, and chronic short-staffing. This follows a survey last month for members. 60-per cent say they’ve considered leaving the job as a result of stress in the past, with overcrowding putting lives at risk. As of August 2025, Manitoba was short 50 corrections officers in adult jails; and 22 juvenile counsellors at the Manitoba Youth Centre

The Manitoba budget, delivered Tuesday, will include more money for child care and a smaller deficit; and possibly more money for nurse training, cardiac care, police and corrections officers. The finance minister says it will also include funding for a 2.9 per cent wage increase for early childhood education workers and 2,000 new child-care spaces. The deficit this year is forecast to be triple the $532-million figure originally planned.
