With just days left until Mother’s Day, it’s time to nail down the gifts you’ll give to thank moms for what may be the most thankless job of all. Trying to decide what that present will be isn’t easy, so people keep coming back to brunches, bouquets and bathrobes year after year. And while those are nice, it turns out that what moms really want is even simpler and doesn’t cost anything.
A new survey asks 2-thousand moms what‘s the number one thing they wish their partners and kids would give them for the holiday. According to the research from Lego Group, all the answers center on one theme – free time.

- Some mothers may not even remember what that is, since it’s been so long since they had some, so it’s not surprising that more than half (58%) of moms say they want to be able to “drop everything” on Mother’s Day and do nothing at all.
- Another 42% would just love some time to themselves. They’re not looking to be treated like a queen so much as have time to read a book, watch a movie, or work on a hobby.
- The thing is, nearly two-thirds of moms say they don’t get any free time because of work responsibilities, while household chores and parenting keep 58% from being able to just do nothing for a few minutes.
- Still, 51% of moms say “quality time” with their family is what they want most this Mother’s Day.
- And 16% would like to make new memories with their loved ones.
- But 10% of moms say what they’d like most is to go to the bathroom in peace. Yep, just enough time to do what we all do multiple times every single day.
- This may be surprising if you’ve never taken care of small children, or if it’s been so long you’ve forgotten what it’s like, but toddlers and preschoolers come to the bathroom with you when you go. And even if you go in alone, they stand outside the door and ask all the questions, or cry because they can’t see you or have to wait for you to make them a snack.
- So, if you’re still deciding what to get the mom in your life, make sure it includes some time she can use for anything she wants, even if it’s just going to the bathroom alone.
