Brandon University is honouring the Class of 2026 this week, celebrating 530 graduates across four ceremonies at the Healthy Living Centre. The two‑day event begins Thursday morning, marking the culmination of years of dedication from students across all faculties.
Convocation opens Thursday at 10 a.m. with graduates from the Faculties of Science and Music, followed by Education at 2 p.m. Friday’s ceremonies continue at 10 a.m. with Health Studies and conclude at 2 p.m. with the Faculty of Arts. BU Registrar Andrea McDaniel says the event is one graduates will cherish for years, noting the extensive work staff and faculty put into making the celebration meaningful.
This year’s Convocation also highlights academic excellence, community service, and Indigenous achievement. Métis Knowledge Keeper Verna DeMontigny will receive an honorary degree during Friday afternoon’s ceremony, recognizing her lifelong work preserving Michif language and Métis culture. Outstanding faculty and alumni will also be acknowledged, and graduates will hear from student valedictorians before receiving a commemorative print by artist Betty Sawatzky.
A major milestone will take place Thursday morning with the formal installation of BU President and Vice‑Chancellor Dr. Christine Bovis‑Cnossen. She says sharing the stage with graduates is a deep honour and reflects the warm welcome she has received since arriving last fall.
All ceremonies are open to the public, with thousands of supporters expected on campus. Louise Avenue and James Ehnes Way will be closed to traffic for safety, and parking will be free in BU lots. Those unable to attend can watch live at BrandonU.ca/Convocation/Livestream.
