The traffic lights that will one day direct the flow at the intersection of Highway 110 and Richmond Avenue East are up but not yet running, so the provincial government has found a temporary solution.
The province announced today that the intersection will converted to an all-way stop to prepare drivers for the eventual activation of the traffic signals. This comes after a fatal crash at the intersection on May 27, where a semi-truck collided with another vehicle. The driver of the semi was charged with with dangerous driving causing death.
“Any loss of life on our highways is tragic, and our thoughts are with the family and loved ones affected by this collision,” said Naylor. “We have taken several measures to enhance safety at this intersection while the work to complete an integrated signal system continues.”

Drivers can also expect to see reduced approach speeds on all legs of the intersection to 70 kilometers per hour, new rumble strips and enhanced existing ones to improve driver awareness, the closure of parallel turning lanes, and finally traffic signals in flashing red mode in all directions until full operation. The signals are expected to be operational this summer, pending completion of rail interconnection work.
