Manitoba’s wildfire situation continues to intensify, with the province reporting 127 active fires and 196 total fires so far this season — well above the average of 156 for this date. The Manitoba Wildfire Service says fire danger remains high to extreme in northern Manitoba, while the rest of the province is experiencing low fire danger for now.
Evacuations are underway in several northern communities. Lynn Lake and Marcel Colomb First Nation have been fully evacuated, while O‑Pipon‑Na‑Piwin Cree Nation has declared a local state of emergency and is relocating priority individuals due to smoke. The Canadian Red Cross and provincial Emergency Social Services are assisting evacuees.
Manitoba Parks has issued closure and evacuation orders for Burge Lake and Zed Lake as conditions continue to evolve.
With Canada Day approaching, officials are urging Manitobans to celebrate safely. Fireworks are prohibited in provincial parks, and a permit is required within the burn‑permit area. Residents outside those zones should check directly with their municipalities for local requirements.
Several significant fires continue to burn in the north, including:
- Fire NO019 near Leaf Rapids (7,000 ha, monitored)
- Fire NO027 near Nelson House (7,300 ha, out of control)
- Fire NO028 near Wuskwatim (10,000 ha, out of control)
- Fire NO048 near Nelson House (500 ha, being held)
- Fire NO050 near Lynn Lake (5,175 ha, out of control)
