As flooding continues to trouble WestMan, the City of Brandon has put in place a temporary dike closure on the west side of the Grand Valley Road (PR 459) and 18th Street (PTH 10). In a release, they said this was required based on current Provincial flood forecasts.
The work is set to begin on July 2. The city asked motorists to obey all signage and to be patient, while also possibly allowing more time for their commute.
“The work will be carried out by Alternative Landscaping Ltd. and is expected to be completed between Thursday, July 2nd and Friday July 3rd,” the city said in their release. “Residents are asked to be patient as crews work to safely and efficiently complete the project. During the temporary dike closure, traffic will be detoured using 18th Street North, PTH #1 and 34th Street North (info available at www.roadclosures.brandon.ca). The city encourages drivers to plan accordingly and allow for additional travel time.”
The city also asked residents to stay off the dike system and away from closed trails, parks, and riverbank areas due to dangers posed by high water levels, fast-moving currents, erosion, and unstable ground conditions. They said they will continue to provide updates as conditions change and additional information becomes available.
