The Princess & The Dragon, a Manitoba‑made psychological horror feature, is continuing its remarkable run on the international festival circuit — earning its second major award in just over a month and solidifying director Miles S. Crossman as one of Westman’s rising creative forces.
The momentum follows last month’s win in Liverpool — a festival Crossman notes received more than 3,000 submissions. The Ottawa event is of similar scale, making the achievement even more meaningful. “It’s a little bit overwhelming to know that something we all made is being so well received,” he said. “I’m so close to it that I see all the flaws, but people watching it for the first time are appreciating what we think.”
The Princess & The Dragon tells the story of a desperate woman trapped in a shifting maze of horrors, decoding cryptic messages while an axe‑wielding dragon closes in. The Canadian feature runs 1 hour and 28 minutes and will be screened at BHIFF’s Summer Event on July 22, 2026.
Crossman’s creative energy is already fueling new ventures. Speaking from Winnipeg, he shared that he’s currently directing artistic retreats for a new true‑crime series for Paramount Plus, slated for release next year. As for what’s next for Westman’s film community, he’s keeping details close. “We’ve got a few things cooking… I’m not gonna name names because that’s the quickest way to pull the pin,” he laughed. “But we’re excited for what’s coming next.”
Tickets and event details for the summer screening are available further down the page — a chance for audiences to experience a homegrown film now making waves far beyond Manitoba.
