Assiniboine River levels in Brandon continue to recede, with the river sitting at 1177.77 feet at 1st Street as of 7 a.m. Friday — roughly half a foot lower than Sunday night’s peak — but the city says flood‑response operations remain fully active.
Crews continue to run and monitor pumps across Brandon while staff carry out regular inspections of dikes, pumping stations and other flood‑protection infrastructure to ensure everything is functioning as expected. The gradual decline marks steady improvement from earlier in the week, though officials caution that safety risks remain.
Residents are urged to stay away from riverbanks, flood‑control structures and any standing or moving water. Even with levels dropping, flood conditions can shift quickly, and unstable ground near the river continues to pose hazards.
The city says it will maintain its current response posture until water levels fall further and infrastructure checks show reduced risk.
