Beginning in October, students at Assiniboine College’s Parkland Campus will have new trades training available to them, including in construction skills, the college has announced.
According to AC, these new programs will teach practical building skills through Assiniboine’s flexible, modular training offerings and will offer skills that will be useful in minor home renovations and expanding their current home improvement understanding or even just help people in pursuit of a new hobby.
“These courses offer a flexible way for people to gain practical, hands-on experience in specific areas of construction,” said Jim DeGraeve, Acting Dean, Trades, Assiniboine College. “We are excited to offer these programs as an entry point, or as a way for potential students to gain relevant industry knowledge that they can look to build on in their careers or at home.”
The college will offer instruction in drywall installation and finishing, painting selection and application, interior finishing, exterior finishing, and concrete forming. They said the new courses are meant to “meet learners where they are” and will include five standalone, hands-on courses, each running approximately three weeks, which students can take just one of or several of.
