Prairie Mountain Health is still trying to get Dauphin Regional Health Centre back up and running after having to close it due to flood related damages but it may be some time before they’re able to restore it to full function.
According to PMH, mechanical, infrastructure, and engineering experts are due to assess the regional health centre this week. Many of their critical systems have suffered damage, including HVAC, elevators, and medical gasses, as well as their kitchen, laundry, and pharmacy.
“In the immediate term, our primary focus is restoring community based healthcare services,” said PMH, “including laboratory and diagnostic services as close to Dauphin as possible. We recognize the importance of maintaining access to care for residents and are working diligently with our partners to minimize disruption and ensure services are available locally where possible.”
Cancer care patients are being contacted directly with instructions on where to receive their care for the time being. Some of the new locations for cancer care are within Dauphin itself, including Oncology appointments with family physicians. In addition, the Community Health Services building adjacent to the hospital, which had been providing mental health and addictions services, remains open and is still providing service.
The Emergency department remains closed, and those who call 911 with an emergency will be transported to the nearest open emergency department. Dauphin’s walk-in clinic operated by the medical clinic is also still open.
