In another sign that the flooding threat from the Assiniboine River has greatly diminished, the City of Brandon is starting the process of removing sandbags from the area that was under the greatest threat.
In a post on their social media, the city said provincial crews would start removing the super sandbags from along 1st Street today, with river levels continuing to decline. They stressed that there is a fair bit of work to do in opening up the road completely.
“This work will take some time, and we ask residents to please give crews plenty of space to work safely,” reads a post on the City’s Facebook page. “Motorists should also expect delays in the area as equipment and personnel are on site throughout the removal process.”
The City added that they appreciate everyone’s patience with the removal process and will post updates when they are needed.
