The Brandon Wheat Kings know they’ll have at least some representation at the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Edmonton, and by the end of this week they may well have found even more.
Signed forward prospect Colin Grubb was named to the final roster for Team USA for the event, along with unsigned prospect Ethan Sung. The two were teammates at Shattuck St. Mary’s last season and have represented USA internationally before.
Grubb, a 6-foot-tall centreman from Minot, was the Wheat Kings first round pick in the 2024 United States Priority Selection. He posted 40 points in 51 games last season with Shattuck’s 18U team despite being one of the youngest players on the squad. He signed with the Wheat Kings on April 17.
Forward Chase Surkan, who led all Wheat Kings’ rookies with 20 goals and 38 points last season, is currently at camp with Team Canada for the same tournament. His camp will run through the remainder of this week.
The Hlinka Gretzky Cup begins on August 3 in Edmonton.
