CAA Manitoba is warning drivers to slow down and stay alert heading into the long weekend, releasing new data that shows dangerous behaviour is widespread on the province’s roads. The organization says 98 per cent of Manitoba drivers have witnessed risky actions, most commonly speeding, distracted driving and unsafe lane changes.
But the findings also reveal a gap between what drivers see and what they admit to doing themselves. Fifty‑nine per cent acknowledge taking part in at least one dangerous behaviour, highlighting what CAA calls a disconnect between perception and reality behind the wheel.
With more families travelling to cottages, attractions and communities across Manitoba this weekend, CAA is urging motorists to stay focused, reduce speed and keep their attention on the road. The organization says safer choices now can prevent collisions during one of the busiest travel periods of the summer.
